[New Life+] Young Again in Another World Anime and Novels CancelledThursday June 7th, 2018
The [New Life+] Young Again in Another World anime has been canceled and the light novels are being put on hold.
The Asahi Shimbun reported that Hobby Japan is canceling shipments of MINE’s [New Life+] Young Again in Another World light novel follow backlash in and outside of Japan. Hobby Japan apologized, but they didn’t say if the cancelation is temporary or permanent.
Short after Hobby Japan’s decision, the anime’s official website has been updated with a statement about the cancelation. It’s not accessible to visitors outside of Japan, but the cancelation has been confirmed by users on Hachima Kikou platform.
The developments are the latest following MINE’s past bigoted comments related to China and Korea. Between 2013 to 2015, he constantly referred to China as “an insect country” and Korea as “the raped country” while viewing the people as subhuman.
Adding fuel to the fire is that MINE’s views seeped into his writing. His protagonist, Renya Kunugi, is noted to have fought in a “world war” and killed more than 3,000 enemies with a katana and an additional 2,000 people after the war.
