Tama Hills, Tokyo, 1990s Japan. With their lifelong natural habitat bulldozed to make way for an ambitious housing project for humans, a cornered clan of tanuki, an extraordinary species of Japanese raccoon dogs, decides to fight back. But to defend their endangered home, the elusive creatures must become reacquainted with their strange, mystical skills to thwart the plans of the brutal invaders.

As the indigenous animals’ future hangs by a thread, the last of the tanuki must up their game at all costs. Faced with impossible odds, can the tanuki beat the humans at their own game?
